Meet your guide:
Isaac Helmericks, owner of Aleutian Outfitters, has been birding since he was a small boy growing up on a homestead in Northern Alaska on the Colville River Delta. It was easy to start a passion for birding when there were birds like Spectacled and King Eiders and Yellow billed loons nesting several hundred yards from the house. Most summers were spent with Isaac performing aerial bird surveys for the USF&W, counting and banding waterfowl, and helping raise many of Alaska waterfowl in his dad’s private aviary. Such birds as Black Brant, Emperor Geese, Long tailed ducks, Spectacled Eiders, and King Eiders just to name a few.
Isaac also has 20 plus years experience working as a boat captain and guide for his families’ Air Taxi and guiding business. The Helmericks family has been in Alaska since the 1940’s and Isaac brings a deep respect for the land and vast knowledge of the history of Alaska. There is never a dull moment or lack of stories while you are on a tour with Isaac.
In 2007 Isaac had the opportunity to move out to Adak Island. This was a dream come true for an avid birder like Isaac and he hasn’t slowed down since then. It makes birding truly exciting to know that any day of the year could yield an Asian rarity or North American first.
